Test Flight Checklist

Below is a checklist for preparing and running Whitebox on actual flights.

Client device configuration

Device connecting to Whitebox via Wi-Fi should be prepared as follows:

  • Disable screen saver

    Android

    Go to Settings > Display > Screen saver and ensure it's disabled.

  • Disable screen timeout

    Android

    Go to Settings > Display > Screen timeout and ensure it's disabled.

    On some Android devices, you cannot disable it, but you can set it to a very high value, e.g. 30 minutes.

  • Ensure no disconnection happens due to no internet on connected Wi-Fi

  • Ensure that the device taps are visible on the screen

    Android
    • Enable Developer options in Settings > About phone > Build number
    • Tap Build number seven times to enable Developer options
    • Go to Settings > Developer options > Show visual feedback for taps ensure it's enabled

Pre-flight

Before heading to the tarmac, ensure the following:

  • Powerbank and other devices (e.g. Insta360) are fully charged
  • Antennas are connected and tightened
  • USB modules are connected
  • Whitebox is booted, client device is connected to it, and it has acquired location
  • External devices are configured and working (e.g. Insta360 provides video stream)

Before takeoff

  • Start screen recording on client device

    Android
    • Swipe down twice from the top of the screen to fully expand the Quick Settings menu
    • Tap Screen recording to start recording. You should get a brief countdown before the recording starts.

    During recording, a floating button will appear letting you pause or stop.

    If you don't see Screen recording in the Quick Settings menu, tap the pencil icon in Quick Settings to enter edit mode, then drag Screen Recorder to the position where you'd like it to appear.

  • Start the flight with the planned route

  • Ensure that external devices have taken necessary actions (e.g. Insta360 starts recording)

During flight

  • If possible, test in-flight features, such as key moments and annotations

After landing

  • Stop the flight
  • Ensure that external devices have taken necessary actions (e.g. Insta360 stops recording)
  • Stop screen recording on client device
